Marcel Damiano grew up in Sterling Massachusetts, picking up the bass guitar at age 14 and spending all of his free time learning the instrument. He also started to become interested in recording music around this time to develop ideas for composition. He attended Umass Lowell for Sound Recording Technology and has recently graduated (’18) with a Bachelor’s degree. His time at Umass Lowell developed his skills in a wide breadth of music on electric and upright bass, performing in groups such as Jazz Lab, Latin band, Jazz Rock/Big Band, Songwriting mixed Chamber, Orchestra, Electronic Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble for Non-Percussionists. This versatility made him a popular choice for students’ recording projects and various live performances.
Outside of school, Marcel has performed with multiple groups including former Prog/Fusion band Bird Up and currently indie pop rock outfit Phil Cambra and the Space Cadets. Marcel has produced, recorded, and/or mixed for numerous projects of his own as well as for groups such as Bib Gaby, The Shirts and Shoes, The Fall is Shorter Than You Think, Ghost Notice, and Ethan Lally. He strongly believes that collaboration with other musicians is the key to any impactful recording or performance.
Marcel enjoys playing and learning other instruments as well such as guitar, keyboards, and ukulele, seeing them as a way to open up doors for composition that would otherwise not be found with just the bass guitar. Guitar has especially become a favorite, learning new techniques whenever he can to augment his skills.
